However, according to Google’s announcements, which has actively promoted the standard, AMP is more than just a mobile optimization project. Some time ago, Google announced that AMP-compliant pages would be marked with a special label in search results. AMP support is already integrated into Google Search Console. It’s just a short step from there to additional ranking boosts in search results for pages that adhere to the AMP standard. In fact, this is already happening in some markets.
A properly executed responsive website ensures relatively easy and user-friendly navigation on mobile devices. However, the AMP format is designed to simplify navigation even further and minimize the use of images.
An even bigger difference lies in page loading speed. A responsive site uses the same files and code, which must be downloaded and processed by the browser regardless of the device. Mobile browsers, with less memory and slower processors than computers, can sometimes struggle with this. Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP), on the other hand, use maximally simplified code, without unnecessary animations, „bells and whistles,” or scripts that slow down the page.
It’s worth considering adapting your website to AMP now, not only to improve the mobile user experience but also because it could lead to tangible results, such as increased website traffic. Many popular CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Joomla) and ecommerce platforms (e.g., Magento) already have plugins that allow for quick adaptation to the AMP standard.
